During the more recent eruption of the volcano was formed the island of 'Nea Kameni' here, on this island and in the 'Taxiarhes' bay lies the wreck of small passenger ship.
It’s a rather shallow wreck starting from a depth of going down to 18m, a fact that make it an ideal wreck, dive even for those who luck in the experience. Just outside the bay you can dive in lava made 70m-keep wall.
During the volcano blast rivers at melted metals, rushed into the sea where the lava froze formatting a unique bottom. The frozen lava cracked into big breaker giving shelter to a variety of aquatic life like crabs, shrimps, octopus, colorful sponges , chirography and monist etc.
